herb's

During my time at bread & Butter, I spearheaded a variety of branding campaigns for restaurants and liquor brands. My personal favorite achievement is the brand I built from scratch for Herb’s, a farm-to-table restaurant opening soon in Riverside California.

Much of my inspiration came from Herb himself—the grandfather of the family opening the restaurant, as well as the restaurant’s namesake. I worked with the restaurant owners to create a brand that felt welcoming and warm, without being too pretentious or campy. To do this, I focused mostly on illustration, natural-looking typefaces, and a color palette that is reminiscent of actual herb’s, as well as Herb’s favorite thing to grow: tomatoes.

Napkin and apron. The custom illustration feature Herb himself, with Thyme on his tie, and his favorite drink: a martini.

Moodboard and color palette. As described in the brand guidelines, this moodboard is meant to convey clean, simple typefaces with the occasional hand lettering and/or illustration. Light, airy, dreamlike photography. Incorporate tomato plants in various ways, including in the red of the color palette (which is also a tribute to Farmhouse Collective itself). Natural materials for menu, etc, and maybe incorporate twine and recycled materials.
