Netflix's Snack vs. Chef

i designed and branded a variety of items for the netflix competitive cooking show, “snack vs. chef.”

my work was recognized in “decider as the sleeper star of the show.

this page is separated into sections describing each category of design work i completed. scroll on to learn more.

snack off packaging

I worked with each individual contestant to help them create their personal brands for their Snack Off packaging. I accomplished this by building a large style guide, wherein each contestant got to choose a theme, and typefaces, color palettes, and iconography/illustration styles based on their selected theme. I would then create a mockup and work with the contestant to make any design changes. Then, I would print the design and build the packaging myself.

The packaging had to be able to be easily and seamlessly opened on camera. It also had to capture both the spirit of the individual contestant, and the essence of the snack..

I had a very limited amount of time to finalize designs and build the packaging, as we never knew which contestant was going to be chosen to compete until it was announced live

vending machine nameplates

I designed snack packaging for each contestant by taking their names and using them to create a variety of snack packaging inspired by traditional popular snacks.

set design

I designed and printed all poster signage in both the bodega and the competition lab. You can see a few posters here.

Additionally, I had to design, print, and create packaging for the generic snack brands in the bodega. For example, I had to design packaging reminiscent of Doritos without explicitly saying Doritos.

I also created barcode designs for the pantry ingredients, that were a more modern spin on the labels you’d see in the bulk section at a grocery store. The modernization was on brand with the show.
